Redemption from sins is what everyone wishes for. Isn’t it so? One way of washing away the sins is to take a dip in the Puskar Lake, the holy one. According to the ancient text 'Pushkaram' means 12 years. A dip in any of the 12 big rivers of India during the Kartik month and especially when Brahaspati is in a specific rashi, is known as Pushkar Snan.

This dip is known differently as the Kartik Purnima Snan, Shahi Snan, Brahma Snan, Maha Snan and so forth. During the Pushkara Navamasa, the rivers gets magnetized and attributes healing properties in the water due to electromagnetic field of the earth, which gets enhanced due to the solar magnetic activity and is stored until the early hours of the sunrise.

It is believed that during this period, the entire system of the body is overhauled to a level similar to that of the effect of meditation. Hence, Pushkara Snan is especially performed at the dawn. It is also believed to be equally beneficial as forming charity at Kurukshetra and meditation at the Narmada river. Pushkar, a place in Rajasthan is one of the most sacred places in India; because Brahma Mandir, a Hindu temple and the only existing temple dedicated to Lord Brahma, the creator, is situated at Pushkar. And it happens to be close to the holy Pushkar Lake. “Pushkar” is the amalgamation of two words, ‘pushpa’ and ‘kar’ signifying, the ‘flower’ that fell from Brahma’s ‘hand’, therefore signifying a place where the flower fell.

Altogether there are three Pushkar lakes – the main Pushkar, Madya Pushkar and Kanishta Pushkar. These three Pushkar lakes symbolize the Hindu Trinity: Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva (Mahesh), respectively. The deities from all walks of life come down to these lakes for the cleansing of their sins. It is referred as 'Adi Tirtha' in the two great epics of Ramayana and Mahabharata. Adi Tirtha means the “original sacred water body”. It is surrounded by 52 bathing ghats where pilgrims flock in large numbers to take a royal holy bath on Kartik Poornima.

A dip in the sanctified Pushkar Lake is believed to wipe away all the sins and cure skin diseases.
